Back Foyer & Dining Room Renovation, Baltimore County, MD
With a darling, 1850s historic farmhouse as our canvas, we embarked on a mission to transform our clients' foyer and dining room, capturing the same warmth and charm of their personalities.
In the foyer, a low ceiling cast a dark shadow throughout the space and we knew it needed to go. But, after careful and expert demolition, we discovered mysteries hidden within the plaster: raw beams, exposed wiring, and visible floorboards from the second floor!
Using no short supply of creativity, we worked with the home's unique quirks to craft a new vision for the back foyer, while making it feel original. We wrapped the beams to mimic other existing beams in the home, including delicate detailing. The addition of modern, recessed lights bring more light into the room and highlight the new millwork. We also completed the trim around the windows and added a simple crown - details that had been cut off from the previous low ceiling. In the portion of the foyer where we had a bit more height to play with, we introduced layered millwork and a more detailed crown. This new mini "dome" is a delightful design surprise!
With the woodwork and fresh paint complete, we then infused the space with personality. Antique chairs were reupholstered in stunning Thibaut fabric, while custom Anna French window treatments add elegance. In the dining room, a beautiful teal sofa and Schumacher dragon fabric Roman shades shine in vibrant colors. Now, every step our clients take will be met with a sense of history, character, and a touch of whimsy.
